Billy The Robot (aka Manic One) or William Thomas Keller III if you want to be all serious, delivers the booty rockin goods for episode 11 of the 530Techno podcast! Billy's been playin some killer gigs lately in SF @ the mezzanine with SFglitch superstars along with local shows and honing his production skills on new original material. A local hero, top notch selector and dj/producer who always knows how to fill the dance floor with dope underground beats, hes shares some info for us curious fans!

How long have you lived in the 530 and if you are not from here, what brought you?
I've been in the 530 since the 530 was the 530, I think it changed from the 916 sometime in the 90s. I liked the 916, it was way more symmetrical. But seriously, born in Chico, did a few years in Red Bluff and made my way back in '87. I started mixing beats up here in 1993.

What have you been working on recently?
Musically a lot going on in recent months. Learning as much as I can about the production side of things, a whole new crazy realm of stuff in that arena. Trying to get more live gigs out of the area. Had a couple shows recently in SF, working on more in the bay, Portland, LA, summer festivals, etc. Building up a website to help with that, www.billytherobot.com. Check it out, that's an original track you hear when you're on the site.

Where and how was the mix recorded?
Recorded this in my Lovenasium, oh I mean my bedroom... As always, one take no edits. Been working with Ableton Live for a few months now, really diggin' it for live performance and production.

Can you tell us a little about the idea behind the mix?
With this mix I wanted to showcase a different style that's really been moving me lately. A little faster than dubstep, not quite breaks, I dunno what you wanna call it. All I know is it gets the ladies up on the dancefloor : ) and it's fun to play. There's a few old school tracks in there that I've always wanted to throw into a mix(Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, Sir Mix-A-Bunch). My ears get bored easily, this is more like what I've been listening to recently and what you might hear me play in a live set.

What are you up to next?
Up next I'll have some more original material to throw into the mix. Looking forward to the festival season and Burning Man this year is going to be extra special... Going to continue to assimilate and refine the skill set and make as many booties bounce as I can.

Which artist or producer's music would you be championing at the moment?
So much good music out there right now. Netrik, MusSck, Slugabed, Loops Haunt, Monk Fly, Fat Pat, Rusty Bridges, Too Much Porn, Nadsroic... list could go on and on. Muti is killing it, Blipswitch is going off. Locally: James Brown is my favorite, N8chur with the visual aspect incorporated, Symbio, Oil Panic, Simple Science. Chico has got a nice pocket of electronic artists at the moment. Always has, but there's something hot brewing up in NorCal, and it's not Sierra Nevada! :p
