Homeslice you have GOT to learn how to bring your tracks in. You bring your tracks in too late so when you cut the previous track, the new one is still building up. Optimally when you bring one track out, the other should drop. The exception to the rule is if you can create a break where there's a calm period and then it builds up again. In this case you're doing neither.

Example: during the kid cudi remix, when you cut the track the Mt Eden track should have dropped. So it would have ended with the day and night chorus, and then dropped.

Now that I'm a little further in and bar 9 is coming in, BEAT MATCH MOTHERFUCKER. Are your ears that retarded?

I'm not trying to be a dick here, and this is a slight improvement from your previous mixes, but you really need someone to sit with you and guide you through what you're doing wrong, because it's completely and totally wrong.

Well there is some progression from previous mixes..

But wouldn't you rather put out a mix or play a party when your skills are locked?

Bottom line practice makes perfect.
Taste is a matter of personal preference...and that's just my opinion

I re-recorded your mix. THIS is what it should sound like. Download it, and study it. Be it. Once you sound like this, then you know you're a step in the right direction.

1. pay for your music (can't stress this one enough if you want to be known as a real DJ)

2. learn how to beatmatch

3. learn how to mix - transitions, cuts, switches, etc.....

4. learn your tracks

5. learn how to program your tracks to make the mix sound like a journey through sound

6. learn patience (in regards to when you want to show the world you want to be a DJ)

7. YOU should be your most critical fan.  If you know it sounds like shit, DON'T put it out on a public messageboard.  Keep it to yourself, or someone who is knowledgeable that can help you.

8. Find a mentor that will help you.  Every great DJ had/has a great mentor.

9. Hope that he doesn't talk shit on a public messageboard.

Following these simple 9 steps will save you the ridicule from the likes of Punktematrix (who still uses a sync button).  =P''''''

I don't use the sync button at all, in fact it's a pretty pointless button to begin with.

Man I remember when I was 18 and djing....I fucking sucked.  Give the kid a break.

And who gives a fuck about a sync button.  If you can't program, play good tracks and read a crowd you fucking suck, a sync button won't help that.

If it actually is an issue then it:

speaks volumes about how much you actually know about music and dj culture in general.

In all seriousness, I really did record that so he could have something to work off of. It really seems like he has nobody to tell him what he's doing wrong, or anything to base off of. He seems to make the same mistakes every time, not really learning from any of them, so using my re-recording should give him something to practice to.

My response was in no way to bash Shifty, It was some sound advise IMO.

And who gives a fuck about a sync button.

I do.  It's cheating IMO.  I guess I have different ideals when it comes to the art of DJing......

If you can't program, play good tracks and read a crowd you fucking suck, a sync button won't help that.

True, a sync button wouldn't help that, but most people have no idea what programming or reading a crowd is, and it can be interpreted differently for every person.  "Playing a good track" is a moot topic, since everyone has their own taste in music.  One mans trash is another mans treasure.

I don't use the sync button at all, in fact it's a pretty pointless button to begin with.

You know I was just pullin' your chain Darren.  haha

Sorry to steer off topic.

Believe me Trox, many people hold the same opinion, esp people who still spin wax.  I just don't agree or really give a shit either way.   I'm just saying that mixing well, programming, and crowd reading ARE the most important things.  Has any dj on this forum that has been playing for over 5 years even factor in beatmatching while playing out.  If you don't completely suck, the shit kind of just becomes an instinct, as I am sure it is to you.  So why complain about some trite fucking function on a dj console of Torque of all things.  Big fucking deal.  I just see  "hating" on it as a way for DJs to posture and bring more attention to their realness.  Shit is fucking weak.

I agree.  I am in no way trying to glorify how I do things.  I am just another DJ with his own beliefs.  When all is said and done, it's the journey that the mix takes us on, doesn't really matter how it was made, as long as it sounds good.

I guess what pisses me off the most about this is, Shifty used two of the tracks that were on my latest mix.  HAHA  JK

Indeed, anyone who has been in the game for a while has their own, very strong beliefs.   I just have the tendency to be an asshole and actually state them time to time   ;D

8. Find a mentor that will help you.  Every great DJ had/has a great mentor.

And you don't even have to be in direct contact with them for it to work. Q-Bert was my mentor and I have never spoken to the dude in my life. But I studied his style like crazy. I always trained as though I would get the chance to battle him one day, and I didn't want to disappoint. Not saying I am Q-Bert, but I can rock a sample and fader better than most. Better than anyone I know anyways.

It really seems like he has nobody to tell him what he's doing wrong

He shouldn't need someone telling him what is right and wrong. If he is putting in enough time, he should hear it and be able to fix it himself. I never had anyone telling me right from wrong.

Put the time in Shifty. Seriously. I am not talking about practicing at parties you get booked to play. That is some whack ass shit and I hate when dj's do that shit...  Sit down and dedicate at least one to two hours a day. And you will still progress slow a fuck even with one or two hours a day. If you can, dedicate like 6-8 hours a day. I seriously did that for six months straight. If you think I am exaggerating, ask Nona. She suffered through it first hand.

Not telling you this to posture or look tight. I am giving you real knowledge on what it takes to be successful. If you are serious about this, then take everything I said serious. If not then keep wondering why everyone bad mouths you any chance they get, and you never progress to the skill level you want.

As am I, but met Q-bert.  Damn he's short!!!!  Always looked up (or down HAHA) to him , as well as any invisible scratch picklers.

Mentor's are the key!

BTW CRiSiS - anytime you wanna have a scratch battle, lemme know (I'm always down to learn new styles)!

thanks for all the support i know i need to work on whatever genres i play but this was just me playing around with dubstep which will probably never happen again unles i lean how to beatmatch a broken beat instead of a 4x4 like what i normally do. this was just to see if i could do it.

Le sigh, almost all EDM is written in 4/4. What the fuck is a broken beat?
