I like the killswitch method to trainwrecking. Just jam out to your trainwrecks and act oblivious.

LOL!!! You couldn't have said it better myself!!

Let's just put it this way, if I clenched my butt cheeks around the cross fader and faded dubstep and trance back and forth willy nilly, it would still sound better.

My own personal opinion is that there is never a reason to horribly train wreck, if you are seasoned. There is a difference between the beats straying a bit, but getting fixed, and the mix just going completely off. If it goes completely off, and the dj cannot recover... That's a newb move. Means the dj needs ALOT more practice.

I am not trying to come off as cocky here, just stating facts. Ask any dj who has been doing this for awhile, and they will say there is never really a time where you just can't find the beat. Well, I can't speak for them... but I am almost positive I am not the only one who feels this way.

Now granted there are days were mixes aren't that great... transitions could be better, keys clash, things just don't sound like they should. But it shouldn't be from trainwrecking. Beatmatching is the first thing a dj should learn, and the last thing they should mess up on. That is the one thing I can always count on... if I am having a bad day and my tracks just aren't flowing, at least I know I can always beatmatch.
i agree with all of that the beat match is never a problem just sometimes those trnsitions get a bit fucked off hahahaha

LMFAO...  Punktematrix FTW

Thats the funniest shit i heard all day!

I used to have this friend back in 97'... couldn't beat match for shit!
He practiced every day and still sounded like someone with turrets trying to beat juggle.
We figured he just didn't have very good hand to lobe(ear) coordination and was a lost cause. So we started calling him dj Derail. Needless to say he quit the hobby a short time after!

God i hope he doesn't see this post!

These days you will hear more, and more kids wreckin' on the decks due to the fact that their friend JOE BLOW is throwing the party, and They will play for FREE!

Thats how you separate the Big leagues from the Minors.... If you hear a bunch of sloppy mixes at a show then the promoter is most likely slimming the budget by booking his younger sisters boyfriend!

Gotta love the politics. :bang:

So i just gotta throw this out there....

I have been hearing this a lot lately, or at least this kind of attitude. I think this is far from the truth my friend. Just because someone plays for free doesnt mean a damn thing about that person and the talent with decks. I mean IMHO there are a lot of people that i have heard ask for money that dont deserve it and people that never or almost never get paid to play that deserve it much more than others. I actually know someone who deserves, at least imo, to get paid when he plays and almost never does and is so humble that he has tried giving money back when he was paid. Does that mean because he will play for free for his friends that he has no skills or little talent? Lots of people play just to play and for their love of the music, not about the buck they are going to make at the end of the night.

Just my  :2cents:

edit- but like everyone else has said, not being able to get a beat or being able to fix something when it goes off is bad news. but we all have a bad night now and then where our transitions are rough and everything isnt as clean as it should be. Practice makes perfect right?

Twitch... I get what your saying, and there is nothing wrong with promoters booking their friends, because we all know as far as locals that's the regular routine no matter where you live.

These days the standards are higher, and the bar has been raised with the evolution of technology and the art of turntablism/mixing and the talent is Top notch...

as far as playing for free, there is nothing wrong with it!
I have played many shows for free over the years, and if the promoter looses money i wont take it even if they offer it to me.

All i know is these days dj's come a dime a dozed, and with the Mainstream conversion everyone want to be a "DJ" which = Quantitiy > Quality vs. 10 years ago when it was Quality > Quantity

There are just way too many kids who jump the gun and play out too early, but in the end they only screw themselves.

Thats why im on the next level: running a record label, and putting out tracks. Because you CAN'T bluff that!

BTW WTF is your pic, a TUB full of Chicken nuggets.... now that shits funny right thur!

I completely get where you are coming from. I just wanted to add my two cents cuz i have been hearing that a lot lately. Free=bad or no skill and it has begun to rather frustrate me.

Ohhh, I don't know about that... I mean, what about all the dj's who just pay a studio engineer and put their name on it? I guess it depends on what your definition of making a track is.

Funny thing is i know of a local dj who has done that! Used other producers studio skillz and put his name on it!

Aside from Trainwrecking, here is a true story of what NOT to do at a gig!

 "Quote from ARC-ONE"
I figured he was doomed at the first point he showed up to his first gig at Sound, 45 minutes late, wasted as fuck on god knows what, played the same song 3 times in a row, got his mixer COMPLETELY UNPLUGED from the soundsystem, still thought he was playing for 10 more minutes (fiddling with mixer and computer while someone else was playing), and kicked out by security screaming "this is my chance, this is my fucking chance".

 LMFAO!
