Ballad of Fallen Angels
« on: February 23, 2006, 07:01:02 PM »
New song of mine! Finally got finished! I know I said I'd have something in December, but whatever. Just a warning, this isn't typical dance music. It does have hardstyle-ish beats, but I focused alot more on the mood of the song (it has violins in it for crying out loud). If you want to know more about it, read my blog titled "Ballad of Fallen Angels Detailed Information." This song is an attempt to make electronic music something more than just dance music. Tell me what you think.

Sound quality is low, but what can you do with the internet, eh?

Here is the link. [I'm_a _link,_click_me]

Peace!

much better than your last songs. you have improved greatly! not that your last songs sucked, these ones just have alot more life. this songs moves, and goes somewhere... something i have yet to accomplish...

do you use chords at all? scales? do you know any music theory? reason i ask is i am trying to find out if i am missing some theory, and maybe that is why i don't understand melodies very well... i can make beats and percussion all day.. but my melody skills are horrible.

I'm LEARNING theory right now, so I use bits and pieces of it. This song has almost none, however, because it started in Dec, before my theory course. And I do way TOO MANY chords, and further more than that I start making 4 or 5 different violins going on different notes, which is a bitch if you hit a dissonance on a lower note because it is semi-hard to hear. And yeah, I remember your advice on trying to make a climax and actually premeditating the song (remember our convo on myspace ;D) and patterns before hand, so I tried to do that to make it much more story-like. Thanks for the advice!
Another inspiration comes from listening to so much soundtrack music (damn good teacher lol), try that out if you get stuck on cool sounding patterns. Gladiator is my favorite one so far. If you want to DL it on your comp just tell me and I'll bring it over some time ;D.
Another place to start with melodies is a harmonic minor scale, look that up on music theory, very kick ass sounding -thumbs up-. Just do a google search if you dont have a theory book. Probably pretty easy to find the notes for. I'll probably be using that on any upcoming track I do. Anyway, thanks for the praise man! I spent ALOT of time on it lol. Peace out!

i know a tad about theory... just enough to know how much i don't know. i know how chords are structured, i know the difference between major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor... my major issue, is that i haven't learned how to channel my feelings, into a melody. how to make the melody portray what i feel. and that is something you are unable to be taught... it's more of a personal issue... at least i think it is???

i haven't had any music classes... since middle school... so maybe i don't know what i am talking about?

Well you got the scales right at least ;) Well, there's billions of scales, but those are the primary scales. One thing, I know you've probably worked on it before but just a tip you should keep in mind, is that if your patterns aren't working to portray your mood, it might be the actual sound and not the patterns. I could have a pattern that seems ghetto corny (even if it is a good sound in itself) but if I just change the sound, it makes it much better. Play with that a bit. Anyway, thanks for the interest! Peace out.

very nice, like the crunchy electro synths.  Is this something you made with synths or with a computer, and if so what program?  the sound is very clean and atmospheric

actually I made it with Reason 2.5

Though I do have synths... which will be used later. I started this song before I had the synth though.

I plan on installing and playing with cubase tomorrow, so we'll see the difference. But yeah, thanks for the compliments!
