A tribute to the Summer of 2010 performed at Memories

Well summer has approached, stopped, sat with us, and is now casually starting to move away. The sun is noticeably going down earlier and coming up later. Temperatures have been moderate so far this summer and has left us with a very pleasant summer feeling. Not too often do you wish it was a little warmer during summer here in Sacramento.

This years warmer season has definitely carried more weight with me.

My mixes are always a reflection of my surroundings as well as my inner feelings. This summer has been very emotional for me. Loosing Arnie Benson in the beginning of the summer was tough, he was a dear friend and a great community leader. Watching my Design Office get dismantled through several Company layoffs to the point of closing the office,(luckily I've been moved to work from home). Add to that not being sure where I'll be living next month. The owners of the house I live in like many other owners right now have foreclosed on the house. I might be able to stay, I might have to move. Definitely feels like a trying time, but with all the hills, comes some valley's too.

As the Stilldream 10 Year approached I found myself at some of the best events that one could ask for, with some of the best people one could ask to be around. Tons of wonderful great memories at events like Harmony Festival (Santa Rosa), Gemini (Area101), Cherish (SF) Lightning in a Bottle (LA), Flowr Powr(Sac), FnF 15 Year (NorCal), The Boom is Back (outside Portland), Dude Where's My Tent 2 (Michigan), Karma (Reno) and the Stilldream 10 Year Anniversary. Its been a pleasure to watch friendships and bonds grow stronger as we add another years journey to our lives. Its also been amazing to see all the growth as a culture we are experiencing, lots of awesome expression going on out there! Keep it up everyone, its beautiful!

Stilldream turning 10 Years old, was watching a dream come to reality. Just thinking about the joy of that event makes me want to roar at the sky, grab my nearest friends and family, and thank life for this beautiful existence that we have the opportunity of experiencing. All the ups and downs, gives us major perspective. Be thankful for what you have.

The outdoor season I always find myself playing more progressive music, whether it be progressive house, trance, breakbeats, techno.... you name it. If its progressive, the outdoor events make me just want to bring that sound; tough and deep. This year was no different except that I'm stepping out of what most consider for me as normal. This summer the music I found the most inspiring was the progressive, heavy and yet uplifting Dubstep sound it just resonated with how i felt. It pulled at me, the heavy breakbeats, grinding basslines, introspective and uplifting melodies. Being tough and dancey while still being chill, the best of both worlds?

This mix was put together over the weekend while at Memories 7, an event dedicated to remembering through celebration the people who have brought joy and inspiration to all of us.

This set I dedicate to everyone I've had the pleasure of sharing some of this very special summer with. Whether we were standing side by side, on opposite sides of a field at the same festival or on different sides of the planet. These are the days we will talk about in the years to come. Embrace them.

Thanks dude. I've been dabbling with dubstep for 2-3 years dropping the select tracks here and there amidst some of my other stuff.

Wasn't really planning on making a mix, but the reactions and feedback from this set at Memories told me I should.

It makes the mornings much nicer. Ive got it going on repeat in my car for the drive to work. Makes for great prework/presunrise enjoyment

i just got done listening. it is a different (more relaxed) style of dubstep then i typically listen to. like i said before any mix you put up i do enjoy listening to. im sure if you wanted to you could go into really any genre and mix a really good mix with whatever you tracks you put together.
that Lady Gaga track threw me for a loop cuz i was expecting the beat and all not to really go with the song but it actually turned out great!

I never said I didn't like Dubstep a year ago...

I've been mixing it in for a bit, first time I bought and played Dubstep was in 2008, Reso - If you can't beat'em, was one of my favorite tunes. Add that to all the Dubstep that we've been bringing out to Stilldream the last 3-4 years. Has it become a bigger part of my life, mos definitely!

I really like where its going. I especially like the tougher sounding progressive stuff.  The production and cleanliness of some of this stuff is off the chain.

Yea i wasn't planning on doing one either, but the new stuff is sooo good. I love progressive but just haven't heard anything that tickled my fancy lately. Picked up all this stuff and figured I'm playing at 430am why not drop all this dope chiller type music then. Turned out soo good I had to make the mix.
